An absence filled
April 3, 2008 on 1:20 pm | In Bloggery | No CommentsI’m back from England, and so the Podcastery has resumed. We recorded a new podcast last night (sadly without Tauhid, who was probably washing his hair or something) and that’ll be going up tonight. We’ll also be recording another one this Sunday which will go online next week.
I also want to thank everyone who came to see me at the UK Web & Mini Comix Thing on the 22nd. It was great hearing feedback from people who are actually listening to the podcast. It was awesome - we’ll try to get the five of us in one convention space at some point in the next few months.
Episode 5
March 17, 2008 on 4:46 pm | In Podcast | 3 CommentsI suppose you’ll be wanting some notes to go with that:
- Our creative processes - how ideas get from our brains to our websites.
- Good Ship Chronicles‘ impending reboot.
- JjAR is awesome.
- I hate my first webcomic so Glod-damned much.
- Garfield.
- The differences between a webcomic reboot and a printed comic or motion picture franchise reboot.
Tomorrow I’ll be flying back to England for a couple of weeks. I’ll be spending Saturday March 22nd at the UK Web & Mini Comix Thing. Despite being in another country, however, we still plan for all five of us to record Episode 6 next Saturday Sunday.
Episode 4
March 7, 2008 on 10:52 am | In Podcast | No CommentsSome notes, should you be interested:
- A proper introduction! Which I buggered up! Hoorah!
- Tauhid talks about recent changes in Good Ship Chronicles and what it means for the comic.
- Samuel L Jackson and a shark.
- “Pulling a Whedon”
- Fan-speculation.
- Scifi that’s “So bad it’s good”
- We briefly talk about Schlock Mercenary.
Episode 3
March 7, 2008 on 10:50 am | In Podcast | No CommentsA few show notes for you:
- Tauhid is missing this week, but I think I fill the void quite well thanks to the consumption of two gallons of chocolate milk. Apologies for just how pointless I am.
- Building a Universe.
- Making your own rules, and breaking them.
- Consistency and realism.
- Retcons.
Episode 2
March 7, 2008 on 10:49 am | In Podcast | No CommentsSome of the ground covered in this edition:
- No introduction! We spent ages talking about pizza and mostly forgot to do one.
- The pizza banter isn’t actually included in the podcast. It may surface at a later time.
- Writing scifi-comedy.
- Storytelling and planning story arcs. Or not.
- I talk far too much about my obsession with Many-Worlds interpretation. And baseball.
- Parody and cliches.
Episode 1 - Part 2
March 7, 2008 on 10:46 am | In Podcast | No CommentsThe second half of our premier episode, in which we discuss:
- Long-form comics, and the difficulties you may experience.
- Print editions and merchandise. And frisbees.
- Aliens. Yes.
- Working with an artist to create your webcomic.
Episode 1 - Part 1
March 7, 2008 on 10:45 am | In Podcast | No CommentsOur first foray into Podcastery lasted an hour and a half. So as not to destroy the synapses in the minds of those who dare to listen, we have courteously split it into two smaller FunSize editions.
Some of the things discussed in this episode:
- Why we chose webcomics as our particular medium.
- Scifi cliches - when they work and when they don’t.
- Comparing science fiction and fantasy.
- Writing a long-form comic.
- The importance of technology in science fiction.
- What scifi fans are after.
An Introduction
March 7, 2008 on 10:30 am | In Bloggery | No CommentsWelcome to the PodWarp 1999 website. No, don’t say anything. We know this is an important moment for you. Your entire life been building up to listening to this podcast, and now it’s finally here you can breathe a sigh of relief. Go on. Relax. Have a cup of tea and some biscuits or something.
PW99 is an excuse for five people involved in the world of Scifi Webcomicry to talk about their craft, about how they go about putting their respective comics together. Every week we’ll get together and discuss everything, from the various aspects of writing science fiction - the cliches, the expectations, knowing the rules and importantly knowing when they should be bent or broken - to the art itself. It’s an excuse to share how we do what we do, and maybe learn something from each other. Hopefully you’ll be able to take something away from each recording (other than, y’know, the fact that I tend to babble incoherently about bugger-all).
As well as the podcast, the five of us will occasionally be posting thoughts and musings on the blog. These posts are generally going to be “As and when” - there’s no schedule for those, so subscribing to the blog’s RSS feed is probably a good idea if you want to keep an eye on these.
